Guinea Pigs
Guinea pigs are not actually real pigs, but cute, furry little members of the rodent family. Those who have guinea pigs as pets swear they are the perfect family pet, they don't have to be walked, they don't sleep all day and play all night, they are perfectly content in their habitats, even if you leave them all day long. Guinea pigs also are easy to please, they love hugs and cuddles, they don't eat too much and it's fairly easy to clean their cages.
The ins and outs of guinea pigs
There are several different kinds of guinea pigs, Abyssinian, shaggy shelties, silky satins and wavy rexes to name a few. All of them are sweet and adorable, but a lot of people like the short-haired variety the best. Perhaps the only downside of owning a guinea pig is that they do not live long. The average lifespan is three to six years-which can be hard on children who become attached.
Yet many guinea pigs live longer, especially when they are fed, cared for and loved properly. Feeding a guinea pig is relatively inexpensive and you can purchase the guinea pig mix online or at your local pet store. You will also want to supplement their diet with veggies and fruits since guinea pigs are vegetarians.
